Stress and Anxiety Therapy

Stress and feelings of anxiety are a normal part of life which we all experience. Stress can be rflected in our body when we are worried about things, have many things to do, or when we haven’t slept enough. We feel it even more so when we are worried about things like relationships or finances. Or when we have concerns for a family member of friend. Sometimes we experience extreme stress from natural disaters, or sudden and unexpected events.

Everyday stress is normal and can be healthy for us as we are motivated to achieve goals, and feel accomplished in overcoming challenges. When we are experiencing stress from many fronts or have been feeling stress for a long period of time, secondary issues can arise.

The Effects of Stress

Stress can present in many ways from insomnia to digestive upset. From headaches to irritability. From high blood pressure to memory issues. We often try to tackle stress with ways that we ‘self soothe’. Negative self soothing behaviours can incude emotional eating, substance abuse, excessive scrolling or excessive time spent at work. Exploring how we manage stress, and unravelling our thoughts and behaviours to find the cause during counselling can provide new, more positive strategies that will enable a healthier path for the future.

Understanding Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are our natural emotional responses to internal thoughts or external triggers. Counselling can uncover the causes of our stress and/or anxiety, and provide clarity in the differences between the two, as well as offer better understanding in regards to the way we think, and why we behave the way we do.

Stress Management Strategies

Counselling can help you to identify the causes of your stress and explore them more deeply in order to manage any underlying thoughts and feelings or areas in which you struggle.

Bringing greater awareness and learning evidence based strategies to help you accept what you cannot change, and better manage the things you can.
