Hello, I'm Karen
Just the simple act of talking about our challenges in a safe environment where we can feel heard and accepted, helps us to start reducing our stress.
My approach to counselling incorporates a Person Centred Approach with an integrated style.
I am open minded and have a naturally empathetic and compassionate nature. I find it easy to connect to all kinds of people from all walks of life. I very much work in collaboration with my clients to collectively move towards hope and change.
I aim to combine psychoeducation to empower clients to continue their progress unassisted, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts if needed, and learn practical strategies to bring about positive change.
Supporting highly sensitive people.
High sensitivity is a personality trait that is present in around 15-20% of the population.
For the sensitive ones, the deep thinkers, the creatives…. from lived experience, I know how your mind can run wild on you!
Sensitivity is often misunderstood, and can sometimes be viewed as a sign of weakness. We may feel our way through life, be emotional and acutely aware, but high sensitivity enables a level of awareness that can be a great advantage in life. Lots of people are sensitive some of the time, but highly sensitive people feel this all of the time it is impossible to turn off but manageable with knowledge and strategies in place. Highly sensitive people are often more aware than the average person of their surroundings, and other peoples feelings. They are often also very intuitive and empathetic.
If you need lots of time alone to recharge, if you have an inate ability to read people, if you notice subtle changes in the emotional state of others and are easily affected by other peoples moods, if you struggle to set boundaries (and then feel guilty for setting them), if you feel overwhelmed in loud and busy environments, if you feel like no one understands you…. you may just be a highly sensitive person.
